Founded in 1997, byfield-pitman is one of Ottawa's longest-running photography companies.

Ben's wedding and event pictures are very candid and his work is best characterized by the sense of narrative that's present in his documentary-style photography. Ben's storytelling can be found in the emotional and joyful moments captured between a couple on their wedding day, and his flair for photojournalism can be seen in the way that he shoot events.

Ben Welland is a full-time professional photographer, and is the owner of byfield-pitman photography.

Ben first became interested in photography in 1994 at the age of fourteen when he built a black and white darkroom in his basement. He photographed his first wedding in 1997, and he studied photography for two years at Algonquin College starting in 1998 and earning his diploma in 2000.

In the years since, Ben has photographed hundreds of weddings, worked for dozens of editorial and commercial clients, and has taught several photography courses at SPAO. Ben was also the primary photographer at Ottawa's weekly arts newspaper, Xpress, for 10 years between 2002 and 2012.

Ben works exclusively as the lead photographer here at byfield-pitman photography.
