An elegant church wedding photographed in downtown Montreal
As a photographer from Ottawa, it always invigorates me to work in locations other than my home city. It’s like how when you’re a tourist on vacation, you wander the streets with a sense of wonder and you take photos with the goal of documenting your trip — I’m not ashamed to admit that I can get a bit touristy when I shoot weddings out of town (see exterior shot of the church and statue).
This wedding day started off at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel in downtown Montreal with me photographing the bride, her mother, and her friends. The room was light and airy and perfect for photographing this gang. I was especially impressed when the bride asked me to do a portrait setup of all the girls together before she’d even had her bridal makeup applied.
From there, we made our way to the The Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul where the couple declared their wedding vows before their adoring fans. The ceremony went about how I’d expected it to, but I found the way that the wedding party came out of the church during the recessional particularly lovely, and I really liked the photographs of the family hugging the newlyweds on the steps of the church.
We finished the day with an intimate tent reception at the bride’s parents’ private residence along the St. Lawrence River and the weather even cooperated quite nicely, delivering us a glowy, pink sunset as the evening came to a close.
